Spotify Editorial Pitching: Quick Guide

Playlist
Playlist

Goal: Get your unreleased track considered by Spotify’s editors and set it up for algorithmic lift on release day.

What to do

  • Deliver early: Distribute 2+ weeks ahead (absolute minimum: 7 days).
  • Pitch in Spotify for Artists: Music → Upcoming → Pitch a song. One unreleased track per release.
  • Fill every field: Genre, sub-genres, moods, instruments, language, location/scene, recording notes.
  • Write a tight note (3–5 sentences):
    • Use-case first (focus/reading/sleep/etc.)
    • Concrete sound (felt-piano, analog pads, granular textures)
    • Context (collab, recording details, notable support)
    • Suggest vibe fit, not a specific playlist
  • Pick the most playlistable track: Clear mood in first 10–15 seconds, consistent energy.

Timing (micro-plan)

  • T-14 to T-10 days: Submit the pitch.
  • Release week: Drive saves, follows, and full listens; share any placements.
  • +1–3 weeks: Keep engagement (live clip/visualizer) to boost algorithmic playlists.

Do / Don’t

  • Do: Be specific, short, and accurate; keep metadata clean.
  • Don’t: Submit late, over-genre, or beg for a specific playlist; don’t send your life story.

Copy-paste pitch (ambient/downtempo)

Piano-led ambient for deep focus and late-night reading: felt-piano, analog pads, slow-bloom strings. Recorded on a Blüthner with subtle tape texture; weightless from bar one. RIYL Ólafur Arnalds / Nils Frahm. Fits calm/reading/deep-focus contexts; German artist (Lower Saxony).
